St Eunan's College, Letterkenny

1000 pupil post primary school including conversion of listed 'protected structure' Castle into school accommodation in addition to new build section with General Purpose Hall and PE Hall.

All areas compliant with the relevant Irish school's acoustic guidelines to ensure a high-quality acoustic environment for effective teaching and study.  The 'protected structure' constraints required negotiation of bespoke acoustic criteria with the Department of Education & Skills (DoES).

PPP Social Housing - Bundle 2

Irwin Acoustics worked with the winning tenderer Torc Housing Partnership on the PPP Housing Bundle 2 scheme during Tender stage in 2019 right through to detailed design & construction stages in 2020/21.  The scheme comprises 465 new dwellings constructed over eight sites throughout Ireland.  Acoustic commissioning is continuing at the various sites to be handed over during 2021.

Odyssey Complex, Belfast

Construction stage is well advanced on refurbishment of the Belfast Odyssey Leisure Complex.  This includes cinemas, restaurant and retail units.  Irwin Acoustics are reviewing sound insulation design to ensure new unit tenancies do not adversely impact on the adjacent Cinema Complex (including IMAX screen) and SSE Live Music Arena.

HSE - PPP Community Nursing Units

MCA Architects were appointed as Lead Technical Advisor by the HSE to the PPP Community Nursing Unit (CNU) project.  The Public Private Partnership scheme comprises the design and construction of several Community Nursing Units across multiple sites in Ireland.  In 2019-2020, Irwin Acoustics worked with MCA on acoustic input into the PPP Tender documentation, review of specimen designs and analysis of noise surveys.

The buildings will provide spaces for between 50 and 120 residents, depending on the location.  The largest of these will be at St. Finbarr’s Hospital in Cork, Killarney Co. Kerry and Thomastown in Kilkenny.  There are also smaller buildings at Ardee, Midleton, Athlone and Clonmel.

PPP Irish Courts Bundle

BAM was awarded the PPP Irish Courts Bundle contract in 2015.  It comprises seven court buildings across Ireland with floor areas up to 8,500sq.m.  The Tender requirements included very stringent acoustic criteria due to the critical aspect acoustics plays in the successful operation of court facilities.

Detailed analysis was been undertaken of airborne & impact sound insulation, room acoustics and indoor ambient noise levels.  Special consideration was given to the sound insulation to courtrooms, judge and jury areas due to the inherently confidential nature of activities in these areas.  Potential noise from custody areas was also an important factor.  All buildings were handed over sequentially throughout 2017 and 2018.
